Guillermo del Toro Produced ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Gets 2019 Release Date
The Guillermo del Toro produced Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is set to be released in August of 2019. CBS Films and Lionsgate announced on Friday that they will officially release the movie in theaters on August 9, 2019. And it’s about time since CBS Films acquired the rights to the books back in 2013.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is directed by Andre Ovredal who is best known for the cult found footage horror film Trollhunter and more recently The Autopsy of Jane Doe. The screenplay was written by John August, Marcus Dunstan, Dan Hageman, Kevin Hageman, Patrick Melton, and Guillermo del Toro.
I think it is kind of a red flag that you have so many authors on the screenplay. Is this due to poor first drafts and the need for rewrites? John August is known for Dark Shadows, Frankenweenie, Corpse Bride, and Big Fish. Originally, John August wrote the script in 2014 for CBS Films. Than in 2016, CBS Films hired Dan and Kevin Hageman to polish the draft written by John August and before him the script was written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. Dan and Kevin Hageman are known for Mystery Men, Hotel Transylvania, and The Lego Movie. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are known for Saw IV, V, VI, and Saw 3D. Marcus is also the writer and director for The Collector, The Collection, and The Neighbor. We all know the amazing works that Guillermo del Toro is responsible for. But why so many heavy hitters on the script? This is either going to be one hell of a story or a chopped up script that had too many hands in its crafting. Only time will tell.
The film stars Zoe Margaret Colletti, Michael Garza, Austin Zajur, Gabriel Rush, Natalie Ganzhorn, and Austin Abrams.
Synopsis: The film follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.
